This workshop is for clinicians with some familiarity with mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies and who want to expand their understanding of how and why these therapies can be effective in our work with children and parents. Dr. McCurry will provide a historical and theoretical background for the efficacy of mindfulness and acceptance in psychotherapy.

Learning Objectives:
1. Following this workshop, participants will be able to describe the origins of common child presenting problems in terms of transactions involving temperament traits, cognitive
development, and the social environment, especially the parent-child relationship.
2. Participants will assess and critique the literature on mindfulness-based and acceptance-based treatments for common child and adolescent emotional and behavioral issues.
3. Participants will engage in discussion and demonstration of mindfulness and acceptance-based treatment strategies and techniques applicable to children with an emphasis on the parent-child relationship.
